The way light hits the kitchen table at 7am

There’s a twenty-minute window where the morning sun comes through the east window at exactly the right angle, and I’ve started waking up early enough to see it.

It’s not dramatic. The light just slides across the table in this long, low rectangle, and for a few minutes everything in the kitchen has this warm, almost golden quality. The wood grain in the table becomes more visible. The coffee mug casts a long shadow. The dust motes actually look like something.

I used to sleep through it. Now I’m up with my first cup, just watching. It’s become this small, quiet ritual that doesn’t require anything from me. No phone, no planning, no productivity. Just light moving across a surface I’ve looked at a thousand times.

I think about how much of life happens in these unremarkable moments. The ones we don’t photograph or post about. The ones that don’t mean anything except that they’re happening, and we’re here to notice them.

It’s enough.
